Tom McMakin is Chief Operating Officer of Great Harvest Bread Co., headquartered in Dillon, Montana. Great Harvest operates 138 fresh bread stores in 34 states and is the nation’s leading fresh bread store chain. Tom and Great Harvest were recently featured in a long-running Microsoft commercial highlighting the work he and Great Harvest have done to create innovation and learning using a sophisticated intranet. He has also been featured on the pages of Newsweek, Fast Company, and Inc. Magazine. McMakin speaks nationally on how companies use technology to mine competitive advantage from community as well as The Secret Recipe: How to design your business and life in a way that both win. Before joining Great Harvest, Tom was a training consultant in the Republic of Estonia, an aide to a Washington, D.C. –area politician, and a Peace Corps Volunteer in central Africa. He is a graduate of Oberlin College and lives with his wife, Mary, and two children in Dillon. Their favorite thing to do in the summer is spend time at their tipi on the banks of the Big Hole River.
